4.2 Watering Setup

Understanding Your Irrigation System
If your system includes a watering kit then this is the place for you! The automated watering system provides precise water delivery while maximizing efficiency. Each component plays a vital role in creating a reliable irrigation network: the digital timer controls water delivery timing, the main adapter converts standard water pressure to drip-line compatible flow, and the distribution network of lines and emitters delivers water directly to your plants. By dividing the system into two circuits, we ensure consistent water pressure throughout your garden.
Installation Process
Step 1: Timer Installation
- Clean spigot threads thoroughly
- Apply plumbers tape to spigot threads
- Attach digital timer, hand-tightening only
- Test timer function with manual operation
Step 2: Main Line Setup
- Connect garden hose to timer if needed for reach
- Apply plumbers tape to adapter threads
- Attach two-way adapter to hose end
- Ensure both outlet valves are closed initially
Step 3: Circuit Division
- Divide garden into two roughly equal watering zones
- Plan main line routes for each circuit
- Measure and cut main feed lines for each circuit
- Connect feed lines to adapter outlets with plumbers tape
Step 4: Support Installation
- Place support spikes in each bag to hold the emitter
- Ensure spikes are firmly secured in ground
- Clip main lines into support hooks
Step 5: Emitter Placement
- Mark emitter locations near each plant
- Cut line for the length you need from bag to bag
- Insert drip emitters at marked locations
- Test each emitter for proper flow
Step 6: Final Assembly
- Install T-adapters where line branches are needed
- Secure all connections
- Use the last emitter as a cap end of each line
Step 7: System Testing
- Open one circuit valve at a time
- Check for leaks at all connections
- Verify emitter flow rates
- Adjust emitter positioning as needed
System Programming
Once installation is complete, program your digital timer based on:
- Plant water requirements
- Local climate conditions
- Soil moisture retention
- Time of year
- Water pressure available
The system should be monitored for several days after installation to ensure proper operation and make any necessary adjustments to emitter flow rates or watering schedules.
