Just 20 days ago, we planted identical tomato starts in two different growing environments: our traditional raised garden beds and our innovative G3 formula bag system. The results? Nothing short of spectacular.

The Setup

Twenty days ago, we started with uniform tomato transplants, giving each the same care and attention. Half went into our established raised beds with quality garden soil, while the others were planted in our G3 formula bags. Same varieties, same starting size, same watering schedule – the only variable was the method, Traditional Raised Gardens VS our Grow System and G3 Grow Formula.

The Dramatic Difference

The photographs tell the story better than words ever could. While our raised bed tomatoes have grown at a respectable pace, reaching about 12-15 inches in height, the G3 formula plants have absolutely exploded with growth.

The G3 Formula Results:

More than double the height of the raised bed plants

Plants reaching 24+ inches tall in just 20 days

Already fruiting with visible green tomatoes forming

Covered in blossoms throughout the plant structure

Robust, thick stems supporting vigorous growth

Dense, healthy foliage with deep green coloration

Traditional Raised Bed Results:

Steady but modest growth to 12-15 inches

Still primarily in vegetative growth phase

Few to no blossoms visible yet

Standard development for this time frame

What This Means for Your Garden

This side-by-side comparison demonstrates the power of optimized growing conditions. The G3 formula appears to provide:

Accelerated vegetative growth – Plants establish faster and grow more vigorously

Earlier flowering – Blossoms appearing weeks ahead of traditional methods

Faster fruit development – Already seeing green tomatoes forming

Superior plant structure – Thicker stems, more robust overall plant architecture

The Bottom Line

In just 20 days, we’re seeing what typically takes 6-8 weeks in traditional growing methods. If these trends continue, we could be harvesting ripe tomatoes weeks ahead of our raised bed plants.

For anyone serious about maximizing their garden’s productivity – whether for food security, self-sufficiency, or simply getting the most from limited space – these results speak volumes about the potential of the G3 formula approach.

We’ll continue documenting this comparison as the season progresses, but after just 20 days, the message is clear: innovation in growing methods can deliver dramatic results.

Stay tuned for updates as we track these plants through to harvest. The best may be yet to come

As spring unfolds, it’s time to share my garden setup for this year’s growing season. Building on the lessons learned from last year’s successes and challenges, I’m making strategic adjustments to maximize harvests while addressing a few issues that emerged.

Doubling Down on Success

Last year’s tomato harvest was nothing short of spectacular. The combination of the Bug Out Garden grow bags and G3 Grow Formula created the perfect environment for these heavy feeders, rewarding us with an abundance of flavorful fruits throughout the season. This success has prompted me to double my tomato plantings this year, focusing on varieties that performed exceptionally well in our growing system.

Crop Selection Strategy

One valuable lesson from previous seasons: grow what your family will actually eat. While I enjoyed experimenting with various herbs and exotic vegetables, I found myself harvesting crops that often went unused. This year, I’m taking a more practical approach by:

Reducing herb varieties to only those we regularly use in cooking

Increasing space for consistently productive fruiting crops

Focusing on vegetables with high nutritional value and family appeal

Selecting varieties proven to thrive in our specific growing conditions

Addressing Last Year’s Challenges

The Hornet Situation

Last season brought an unexpected challenge: hornets. These aggressive insects not only created safety concerns for my family but also disrupted the natural pollination process by chasing away beneficial bees. I found myself hand-pollinating zucchini and okra with a paintbrush—effective, but time-consuming.

Two Key Changes for 2025

To address these issues, I’m implementing two significant modifications:

1. Black Plastic Mesh Ground Cover: Replacing the white panda plastic with black mesh serves multiple purposes:

Improves drainage to eliminate standing water that attracted hornets

Reduces weed pressure while still allowing water to penetrate

Creates less reflective surface to minimize insect confusion

2. Dedicated Pollinator Station: I’m introducing a dedicated grow bag in the center of my garden filled with wildflowers specifically selected to attract pollinators. This “bee magnet” should:

Draw beneficial insects into the heart of the garden

Improve natural pollination rates

Create a more balanced garden ecosystem

Provide visual beauty alongside practical function

The Foundation Remains Solid

While I’m making these targeted improvements, the core of my Bug Out Garden system remains unchanged. The proven formula for success continues to be:

Mixing G3 Grow Formula thoroughly with a cubic yard of high-quality soil

Utilizing the specialized grow bags that provide optimal root environments

Implementing the automated watering system for consistent moisture

Following the spacing guidelines that maximize productivity per square foot

Looking Forward

With these improvements in place, I’m excited to see how this year’s garden performs. The Bug Out Garden system’s inherent flexibility has allowed me to adapt to challenges without abandoning the core benefits that make it so effective.

I expect the doubled tomato plantings to provide not just fresh eating but enough excess for preserving. We were fortunate to enjoy our dried tomatoes through the winter and would love more. The strategic crop selection should result in less waste and more meaningful harvests. And hopefully, the pollinator station and drainage improvements will create a more balanced ecosystem where bees thrive and hornets find less reason to linger.

I’ll be sharing updates throughout the growing season, documenting successes, challenges, and yields. Stay tuned for progress reports as we move through the months ahead!

In the world of emergency preparedness and food security, the ability to produce food year-round is invaluable. As last year’s growing season came to a close, I decided to put the Bug Out Garden system to the ultimate test—winter growing in a challenging climate where snow blankets the ground for months.

The Winter Garden Experiment

The setup was straightforward but strategic. After harvesting the final summer crops, I:

Removed all dead plant material from the grow bags

Refreshed the soil with a light application of G3 Grow Formula

Directly sowed cold-hardy seeds into the bags

Relocated the entire garden setup to my greenhouse

This simple process took less than an afternoon, but the dividends it paid throughout winter proved extraordinary.

Unexpected Harvests in the Snow Season

While the landscape outside lay dormant under snow, the Bug Out Garden inside my greenhouse flourished. The results went beyond my expectations:

Root Vegetables Thrived: The beets, carrots, and parsnips established strong root systems during the cooler fall temperatures and continued developing through winter. With the grow bags maintaining optimal soil temperature better than ground soil, these crops got a tremendous head start.

Brussels Sprouts Defied Expectations: These typically long-season brassicas benefited from the protected environment and consistent nutrition from the G3 Formula, developing sweet, tender sprouts even in the depths of winter.

Continuous Greens Harvest: The most impressive result was the continuous supply of fresh lettuce and spinach throughout February, March, and April. While snow remained on the ground outside, we enjoyed multiple harvests of nutrient-dense greens—something impossible with traditional gardening methods.

The Bug Out Advantage in Winter

Several key factors made this winter growing success possible:

Portability: The fundamental design of the Bug Out Garden grow bags allowed for easy relocation to the greenhouse—something impossible with in-ground gardens.

Optimized Growing Medium: The G3 Grow Formula continued releasing nutrients throughout winter, while the water-retaining crystals helped maintain consistent moisture levels despite the dry winter air.

Temperature Management: The grow bags in the greenhouse created a microclimate that maintained root zone temperatures at ideal levels, even when ambient temperatures dropped. however even buried under straw they would thrive.

Implications for Food Security

This winter growing experiment highlighted a critical advantage of the Bug Out Garden system—the ability to produce food continuously, even during traditionally unproductive seasons. In a true emergency situation, this extended growing capability could be the difference between having fresh, nutrient-dense food or relying solely on stored provisions.

For preppers and those concerned with food independence, this winter success demonstrates that the Bug Out Garden isn’t just a fair-weather solution—it’s a complete system for year-round food security.

Looking Ahead

Based on this winter’s success, I’m expanding this approach for the coming winter, dedicating more bags to cold-season crops and experimenting with additional varieties. The ability to harvest fresh greens in February and get a head start on root crops has added a new dimension to my food security planning.

For those using the Bug Out Garden system, I highly recommend considering a winter growing strategy. Even without a greenhouse, cold frames or other season extension methods combined with the system’s inherent advantages can significantly extend your productive growing season.

This year, my garden has truly outdone itself, delivering a stunning 124 lbs of fresh, nutritious, and absolutely delectable produce! While the variety may have been a bit lopsided as I focused on growing the crops I enjoy the most, the overall yield has been nothing short of impressive.

The secret to this bountiful harvest lies in the garden layout outlined in the guidebook. By following the sample design, you can maximize the productivity of your limited growing space and achieve higher yields across the board. Of course, diversifying my plant selection would have added an even greater array of flavors and textures to my homegrown bounty.

Despite the slight imbalance in my crop selection, I now find myself with far more produce than I can possibly consume on my own. This has allowed me to preserve a significant portion of my harvest for the winter months ahead, ensuring that I can continue to enjoy the fruits of my labor long after the growing season has ended.

As I look back on this year’s gardening triumph, I’m filled with a sense of pride and satisfaction. The Bugout Garden is designed for ease of use and low effort and it has paid off in the form of this incredible yield. I can’t wait to see what next year’s growing season has in store!

Ok folks, its time to save some seeds for next year. In this case I will be harvesting Beans. I have found that cutting water 2 weeks before the end of the season is ideal to let the beans finish growing and dry on the vine. Once they are dry and nice and crispy you can harvest them and pop them open. Here you can see the seeds on a plate with there husks removed. There are Black and Kidney Beans on the plate. They are very easy to identify and separate for use next year. place in a paper envelope and store in a cool dry place and you will have happy healthy seeds for next spring!

As your season winds down it is important to take care of some simple housekeeping tasks before the next grow season. You have a few options but they all start with topping the plants. This step of removing the foliage insures your soil will be ready to use next grow season and discourages the onset of fungal issues and insects. My preferred method is to leave the bags exposed through the winter. Here in Utah we get a lot of temperature fluctuation that help break down the roots and return vital nutrients back to the soil. In the spring just remove the decomposed root stem and mix in your G3 Grow Formula and your set to go. An alternative method is to place down a tarp and dump out the bags and remove the stems and roots in the fall. Both methods work well, Just make sure you leave your garden the greatest chance of success in the spring with topping foliage and cleaning your grow area.
